Our EZIP Trailz Review: The EZIP
Trailz is the cheapest e-bike available on the market. Sold at many large
retailers, this model was designed to be affordable - making it an option for
almost anyone to ride. Unlike the IZIP line of e-bikes
, EZIPs a heavy steel frame (instead of aluminum) and other lower quality
components. This entry-level bike handles well in many conditions, but it's probably
not well-suited for serious riders. Powered by a 18lb 24V/10AH sealed lead
acid (SLA) battery, the EZIP Trailz is our heaviest e-bike model at 70lbs.
Luckily, the battery can easily be removed for storage or charging - or to reduce
the weight. Another nice feature of all EZIP "RMB" (rack mounted battery)
models is the ability to carry a second battery pack. Rated at up to 20 miles
per charge under ideal conditions (with pedaling), 10-14 miles is more likely
for most riders. You can double that amount with a second battery pack, but the
bike will be much heavier and harder to operate. PLEASE NOTE: Currie now offers
two lightweight, Li-Ion upgrade packs for this bike! Please see the 24V/6.4AH
Li-Ion Battery or the 24V/9.6AH
Li-Ion Battery The EZIP Trailz includes a 450w chain-driven motor (mounted
on the left side) that isn't as quiet or efficient as the hub motors on some e-bike
models. But it's quite powerful and will provide plenty of torque from a dead
stop. With a top speed of about 15mph (no pedaling), it includes a twist-and-go
(TAG) throttle and pedal assist (PAS) that can easily be selected on the handlebar
control. Twist the throttle to get started, or switch to PAS for automatic assistance.
With only one PAS setting - it's not as flexible as some pedal assist systems,
but it provides a nice alternative to the throttle and can help extend your range. Opinions
& Recommendations: If you're looking for the cheapest option available,
the EZIP Trailz is your best choice. It's not the highest quality bicycle and
it's very heavy, but it will get you from Point A to Point B quickly and easily.
Comfort wise, it's lacking the flexibility and upper-end components of higher-end
models. But it's a great entry-level bike that will help you get a feel for e-bikes
without breaking the bank.
