Our IZIP Trailz AL Review:
The IZIP Trailz AL is one of our best selling e-bike models. It includes traditional mountain bike styling, lightweight aluminum frame and slightly more upright seating than the heavy duty Mountain Trailz AL. With smooth all-terrain tires, light weight front suspension and 7-speed gear shifter, it's quite versatile and handles well in many different environments - on the street, sidewalk or light trails and off road paths.
Powered by an 18lb 24V/10AH sealed lead acid (SLA) battery, the Trailz AL is quite heavy at 65lbs. But it's very affordable compared to other e-bike models and the battery can easily be removed for storage or charging - or to reduce the weight. Another nice feature of all IZIP "RMB" (rack mounted battery) models is the ability to carry a second battery pack. Rated at up to 22 miles per charge (under ideal conditions w/ pedaling), the average rider can expect 10-15 miles under normal conditions. With a second battery pack you can double that amount, but it will make the bike much heavier and slightly harder to operate.
The IZIP Trailz AL has a 450w chain-driven motor (mounted on the left side) that isn't as efficient or "stealthy" as the hub motors found on some e-bike models. But it's quite powerful and will provide plenty of torque from a dead stop. Unlike our pedal assist only models, the Trailz AL includes a twist-and-go (TAG) throttle that will allow you to get up to speed without any pedaling at all. But your range will be limited if you don't provide any assistance.
Opinions & Recommendations:
Not as rugged as the Mountain Trailz AL and not as comfortable as some
of our cruiser-style models, if you're looking for a combination of comfort and function, the IZIP Trailz AL is an excellent option. With a lightweight aluminum frame and higher quality parts and components, this model is a big step up from the low cost EZIP versions available at many large retailers. But it's still moderately priced in comparison to our upper-end models, making it a good choice for new or experienced riders who aren't bothered by the extra battery weight.
