Our Via Mezza Enlightened Review:

The IZIP Via Mezza Enlightened is IZIP's top-of-the-line electric folding bicycle. An upgraded version of the lower cost IZIP Via Mezza, it's compact and stylish and loaded with features such as a removable Li-Ion battery pack, lightweight aluminum frame, 7-speed twist shifter, disc brakes, suspension seat post, rear rack, fenders and more. Fold it up in seconds and store or transport almost anywhere.

With over twice the life (and half the weight) of a standard SLA battery, the IZIP Via Mezza Enlightened is powered by a high-quality 36V Li-Ion battery pack and weighs just 45lbs. Remove the battery and the bike drops ten more pounds for easy loading, storage or charging. Rated at up to 25 miles per charge under ideal conditions, most riders will achieve 10-15 with the throttle and minimal pedaling. But the optional pedal assist mode will help you extend your range, making 15-25 miles much more likely since pedaling is required.

The IZIP Via Mezza Enlightened is driven by a high-end brushless geared hub motor on the rear wheel that is very quiet and efficient. And with 36 volts of power (vs. 24V on the standard Via Mezza) it's quick, responsive - and extremely fun! The larger 20" wheels also make the bike easier to handle and pedaling is much more efficient since each stroke results in more distance traveled. With only one pedal assist setting - "ON" - you won't have the control you might have on one of our full pedal-assist models. But it's a great way to extend your range and the twist-and-go throttle will provide all the control you need when required.

Opinions & Recommendations:

If you're looking for an electric folding bike with all the bells-and-whistles, the IZIP Via Mezza Enlightened is a great choice. Not only is it folding and compact, but unlike the standard Via Mezza, it's 7-speeds and larger 20" wheels make easier to pedal and more suitable as a commuter bike. It also has a longer wheel base and rides more comfortably than the standard Via Mezza model. Plus, it has a throttle and optional pedal assistance.
