Our IZIP Via Rapido Review:

The IZIP Via Rapido is a moderately priced Lithium-Ion model and includes a lightweight Li-Ion battery built into the rear rack. Similar to the EZIP Eco-Ride, the Via Rapido is designed specifically for commuters with integrated pedal assist, larger 700c rims and narrow all-terrain tires. The comfortable upright seating, front suspension fork and seat post make it great on the street or any paved surface.

With over twice the life (and half the weight) of a cheaper sealed lead acid (SLA) battery, the Via Rapido's high quality 26V Li-Ion battery weighs just 8lbs and can easily be removed for storage or charging. At 52lbs total, it's fairly lightweight compared to other e-bike models and the integrated pedal assistance will allow most riders to achieve the rated range of 15-22 mile per charge (under normal conditions) since pedaling is required. For heavier riders or hilly terrain, expect the range to be slightly reduced to 12-18 miles per charge.

The IZIP Via Rapido is powered by a 250W chain-driven motor (mounted on the left side), similar to the 450W motors included on other IZIP bike models. Surprisingly, the reduced power rating of this motor is barely noticeable since the Via Rapido operates in pedal assist (up to 50% power) and the throttle only provides the other 50% while pedaling. Even with the pedal assist bypassed and fully throttle controlled, 250W is plenty of power on flat terrain. But if you have big hills or inclines, plan on providing some assistance.

Opinions & Recommendations:

Lightweight and affordable, the IZIP Via Rapido is a great commuter bike. Because of its unique pedal assistance system, 700c wheels and narrow self-sealing tires, this bike is well-suited for riders who prefer to pedal and will be commuting by street. Although this bike can handle smooth off road conditions, the narrow tires will make it hard to handle in loose dirt or sand and wider tires might be more suitable on paths or bike trails.
